BLOOMINGTON, Ill. –The Illinois Wesleyan University School of Music will host a Tuba Euphonium Ensemble concert at 3 p.m. on Feb. 21 in the Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall (1210 North Park St., Bloomington).
The event is free and open to the public.
Three groups will perform during the concert including two tuba euphonium quartets and the full tuba euphonium ensemble.
The Tuba Euphonium Quartet 2, which consists of sophomore Paul Tkach and sophomore Tom Miller on euphonium and junior Meg Nally and first-year student Lily Sikes on tuba, will perform Prelude & Voluntary by Orlando Gibbons, Tuba Voluntary by Henry Purcell and Keystone Chops by Lennie Niehaus.
Following the first quartet will be the Tuba Euphonium Quartet 1 performing movements from The Basics by Roy Newsome; Take Five by David Brubeck and Paul Desmond; and Dueling Barbers of Seville by Giacchino Rossini, arranged by Robert Wilkinson. The quartet consists of junior Cindy Pistone and first-year student Sam Sterbenc on euphonium and sophomore Max Briggs and senior Nathaniel Strauss on tuba.
After a brief intermission, the Tuba Euphonium Ensemble will perform Toccata by Girolamo Frescobaldi, arranged by Joseph Skillen; Adagio for Tubas by Samuel Barber, arranged by David Spies; and “Dies irae” from Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi, arranged by Jason Cole. Conducted by Ed Risinger, the ensemble will include all student quartet members from the concert as well as sophomore Aaron O’Neill and junior Rachel Rhody on euphonium and senior Terry Joria on tuba.
