BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan Civic Orchestra (IWCO) will perform a concert Sunday, November 21 at 3 p.m. in the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts (BCPA) (110 E. Mulberry St., Bloomington).
Admission will be $10 for the general public, $2 for students and discounted for senior citizens and IWU alumni. Tickets can be reserved through the BCPA Box Office at www.artsbloomng.org or by phone at (309) 434-2777.
Conducted by Illinois Wesleyan Professor of Music Steven Eggleston, the concert will include Masquerade by Aram Khachaturian and Hungarian Rhapsody No. 6 by Franz Liszt, arranged by Franz Doppler. The concert will conclude with Hector Berlioz’s Symphonic Fantastique, influenced by the composer’s intense infatuation with a British actress.
Eggleston, director of the IWCO, founded the group in 1984. IWCO is composed of community members and students from all majors. The orchestra frequently tours the United States and boasts such appearances as on CBS’s Sunday Morning with Charles Kuralt.
The group has performed with many esteemed soloists including virtuoso string bassist Edgar Meyer, Grammy Award-winning soprano and IWU alumna Dawn Upshaw and baritone Roger Roloff of the Chicago Lyric Opera.
