BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – On Thursday, Dec. 2, the Illinois Wesleyan University School of Music will present a student composition recital. The event, which is free and open to the public, is part of the IWU New Music Series and will take place at 8 p.m. in Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall (1210 Park St., Bloomington).
The concert will feature pieces by Conor Strejcek, a first-year music composition major from Naperville, Ill.; Keanan Koppenhaver, a first-year composition major from Buffalo Grove, Ill.; Jesse Schaar, a senior physics major from Mundelein, Ill. and Kyle Lewis, a sophomore music composition major from Grayslake, Ill.
Strejcek and Koppenhaver will open the program with their composition, Fourth Floor Window. Strejcek will be on vocals and piano and Koppenhaver will sing and play the guitar. They will be joined by first-year student Kelly Lamorena, first-year Jordan Riddle and sophomore Olivia Dunham on the trumpet, as well as first-years Calob Pluhm and Stephanie Jones on the trombone.
Schaar will follow with Free Improvisation on the piano.
Lewis will close the performance with I’ve Been Here Before, featuring juniors Sarah Struebing and Jordan Pettis on the violin, junior Dave Getz on the viola, junior Michael Grittani on the violoncello and Schaar and junior Gretchen Wendlandt on the piano.
