Girl Talk to come to Illinois Wesleyan
September 16, 2010
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Gregg Gillis, better known by the stage name Girl Talk, will perform at Illinois Wesleyan on Sept. 24 at the Shirk Center (302 E. Emerson St., Bloomington). The band Grand Buffet will be the opening act for the show. Doors to the event will open at 6:15 p.m. with the show beginning at 7 p.m. The concert is sponsored by the Illinois Wesleyan Student Senate.
Tickets for Girl Talk are free for Illinois Wesleyan students and are $15 for all non-students and are available at the Hansen Student Center (300 Beecher St., Bloomington) from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sept. 13- 17 and 20-24 or online at ticketmaster.com.
Using only his laptop, Gillis creates mixes of danceable music from different genres and looks to play concerts that are focused on “pop musicality,” according to the PitchPerfectPR website. Having played over 200 concerts and been booked for large music festivals such as Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Bonnaroo, Gillis is gaining momentum in catching the attention of larger audiences. As PitchPerfectPR points out, “Rather than taking mashups to an extreme, Girl Talk is more focused on the art of the sampling and developing new tracks that have their own character, and surpass the original elements.”
“Student Senate is excited for this concert because it is different from anything that IWU has heard before. Girl talk will hopefully appeal to a variety of students and attract a big crowd,” said Student Senate University Events Commissioner Marlena Szewczyk.
