Top Girls revolves around the examination of gender roles and whether success is achieved through
business or personal pursuits. The main character Marlene, a driven businesswoman

at the expense of her personal and social life. Marlene and her female co-workers
represent the historical struggle to succeed in the perceived male realm of business
regardless of the sacrifices.
