Illinois Wesleyan Student Receives CPA Society Scholarship
January 12, 2009
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Junior accounting major Jeffrey Marinier of Munster, Ind. has
been awarded the Illinois Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Society scholarship and
will begin interning with Ernst and Young this spring.
Marinier was made aware of this scholarship opportunity by Gerald Olson, professor
of accounting at Illinois Wesleyan. Marinier decided to pursue the program because
it seemed to be tailored to his specific career choices.
“The scholarship was created for individuals planning to sit for the CPA exam their
final year of college and that has been my goal since my first year at the university,”
Marinier completed the application process, which included submitting a resume, a
transcript, detailed financial information, two personal statements and two letters
of recommendation written by David Willis, associate professor of business administration,
and Warren Kistner, director of the Hart Career Center.
At Ernst and Young in Chicago, Ill., Marinier’s internship will include assurance
and auditing. He will meet with clients, verifying their financial statements. “I’m
excited that I will have the opportunity to apply my classroom experience to the real
world,” said Marinier.
