New Music Café

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan School of Music’s New Music Café will present the works of Elliot Carter, Lawrence Rush, Jean Milew, David Gompper, Kari Besharse and Carl Shimmel on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 8 p.m. in the Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall (1210 N. Park St., Bloomington).
The performance is free and open to the public.
The New Music series features 20th century and contemporary compositions. This installment of the series will include: Michael Hall on viola, performing Carter’s Figment IV and Milew’s Long Days, Short Years, “the way time passes while raising children.” Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts Saundra DeAthos, soprano, and Gretchen Church on piano will perform two of Rush’s compositions with titles to be announced from the stage. Chris Callahan on violin and Professor of Music David Vayo on piano will perform Gompper’s Finnegan’s Wake, and the Illinois Wesleyan Percussion Ensemble will perform Shimmel’s Serving Size Four Bunnies, as well as a recorded electroacoustic composition by Besharse and improvisation by Hall and Vayo.
