Symphonic Winds and Wind Ensemble to Perform Annual Concert

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. –Illinois Wesleyan University’s School of Music will present the Symphonic Winds and Wind Ensemble concert Thursday, Feb. 26, at 8 p.m. in the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts (107 E. Chestnut St., Bloomington).  This event is free and open to the public.

The concert will feature several pieces including, “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night,” by Elliot del Borgo; “Molly on the Shore” by Percy Grainger; “Theme and Variations, op. 43a” by Arnold Schoenberg; and “La Fiesta Mexicana” by H. Owen Reed.

Janson Landes, director of bands of University High School, Normal will conduct the Symphonic Winds this semester, while Roger Garrett, assistant professor of music, is on sabbatical leave. This will be Landes’ debut performance as the Symphonic Winds music director. The ensemble features 50 students of all majors, and performs three to four concerts a year.

The Wind Ensemble will be conducted by Director and Professor of Music, Steven W. Eggleston. The ensemble was founded in ’79 by Eggleston, and throughout the years has brought many guest performers including John Corigliano, Avro Part and Louis Andreissen.
