BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Trumpet Player Joey Tartell will perform on Sunday, Jan. 18 at 1:00 p.m. in the Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall (1210 Park St., Bloomington) as part of the 3rd annual Brass Weekend at Illinois Wesleyan University.
This event is free and open to the public.
Following the recital Tartell will lead a free brass clinic at 2:00 p.m.
Tartell received his bachelor’s degree in Trumpet Performance from the Eastman School of Music and his master’s degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Miami. He is currently teaching trumpet at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music.
Tartell plays lead trumpet for the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, the Buselli/Wallarab Jazz Orchestra and the Steve Allee Big Band. He toured and recorded with Maynard Furguson, the Woody Herman Orchestra, the United State’s Army’s Jazz Ambassadors, the Doug Lawrence Orchestra and the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
As a free-lance artist, Tartell played back-up trumpet for Doc Severinsen, Aretha Franklin, Don Henley, Manhattan Transfer, Barry Manilow and Arturo Sandoval. He has recorded for Cedar Point Amusement Park, the Chicago Tribune, McDonald’s, Applebee’s and the Orange Bowl halftime show and parade.
