BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University Jazz Combo will present a free concert at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24 in Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall (1210 N. Park St., Bloomington). The performance will be split into two parts, the six members of the original combo will play first, and the seven performers in the top combo, Active Ingredient, will end the show.
The first group will perform such toe-tapping jazz standards as Sing a Song of Song, Kenny Garrett, Doxy, Sonny Rollins, Monk’s Mood, Thelonious Monk, Have you met Miss Jones, and Richard Rogers.
These works will highlight the musical talents of saxophonists Jeff Kutschke ’12 and Ini Essien ’13, trombonist and student director Jamie Burchett ’11, piano player Phil Lewis ’13, bass player Allison Whitley ’12 and drummer Jacob Bisaillon ’12.
Active Ingredient will follow these jazz standards with classics of their own including, Spain, Chick Corea, Lullaby Birdland, George Shearing, I got it Bad and That Ain’t Good sung by vocalist Jordon Pettis, Benny Goodman, Body and Soul, Coleman Hawkins, Impressions, John Coltrane, All Blues and Miles Davis.
These songs will showcase Gabe Stillman ’13 and Kristina Dakis ’11 on the saxophone, Jay Heidekat ’10 on the trombone, Charlie Berggren ’10 on the piano, Sara Ghadiri ’11 on the bass and Steve Kutschke ’10 on the drums.
