Film Series Celebrates Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) History Month

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – A film series co-sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Student
Affairs, IWU Pride Alliance, and Counseling and Consultation Services will be held
Oct. 13 through Oct. 29 in honor of LGBT Month.
All films in the series will begin at 7 p.m. and be shown in the Center for Natural
Science Learning and Research building in room C102. There will be a discussion following
each film. This series is free and open to the public.
The series, titled Out in History, will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 13 with the film CBS Reports: The Homosexuals. In this program, a CBS News correspondent presents the dilemmas of gay men at the
time of filming.
The Celluloid Closet will be shown on Monday, Oct. 26. The film focuses on interviews from Hollywood insiders
describing the treatment of LGBT characters in film.
The final movie in the series will be To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar. Starring Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes, and John Leguizamo, this film will be shown
on Thursday, Oct. 29. It follows the three stars as drag queens on a road trip to
Hollywood. Along the way, they must deal with racism, homophobia, and learn to grow
into their true identities.
