Chapel Hour to Hold Ash Wednesday Service

February 18, 2009

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan University will present its weekly chapel hour on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 11:00 a.m. in the Evelyn Chapel (1301 N. Park St., Bloomington).

The service is open to the public.

This week’s service will mark Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Christian season of Lent. Christian’s believe that Lent, a forty-day period of fasting, prayer and reflection, prepares them for the holiday of Easter.

Ash Wednesday services focus on the Lenten season’s themes of penitence and self-denial. Traditions at these services include marking the forehead with ashes, symbolizing repentance for sins and a recommitment to faith.
