Copyright Law Expert to Share Knowledge, Experience

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - E. Michael Harrington, professor of Music Business at Belmont
University, Nashville, Tenn., will visit Illinois Wesleyan University to address the
issue of copyright law and discuss his experiences with the Nashville music scene
on Monday, Jan. 14, 2008 at 11 a.m.
The event, free and open to the public, will take place in Westbrook Auditorium of
Presser hall (1210 N. Park St., Bloomington).
Recognized nationwide as an expert on the subject of intellectual property and copyright,
especially in relation to popular music and entertainment, Harrington has provided
legal consultation and expert witness testimony for copyright infringement cases involving
a variety of popular artists and corporations such as Steven Spielberg, the Beastie
Boys, and the Ford Motor Company.
Harrington has lead training sessions and taught master classes at Harvard University
Law School, spoken at the Future of Music Coalition Policy Summit, and is chair of
the College Music Society Committee on Music Industry. In 1995, he was named Jennison
Distinguished Professor of the Humanities at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
He has given interviews for numerous journals and television shows including The New York Times, People Magazine, and "The Today Show." His own articles and editorials have appeared in Popular Music and Society, Women and Music in America Since 1900: An Encyclopedia,
and The American Society of University Composers Monography Series.
