BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Professor Elliot Sperling, director of Tibetan Studies at Indiana University, will give a presentation titled “Tibetan Autonomy and Chinese Rule: Current Events and Critical Debate” and engage in a question and answer session at Illinois Wesleyan University on Thursday, May 15 at 7 p.m.
Sponsored by the Illinois Wesleyan University Religion Department and the International Studies Program-Asian Studies team, the event will take place in Beckman Auditorium of The Ames Library (1 Ames Plaza, Bloomington).
The event is free and open to the public.
Sperling’s publications include The Tibet-China Conflict: History and Polemics; "Tibet" in Medieval Trade, Travel, and Explorations: An Encyclopedia; "Exile and Dissent: The Historical and Cultural Context" in Tibet Since 1950; and "Awe and Submission: A Tibetan Aristocrat at the Court of Qianlong" in International Review of History.
