Fund Established for Fire Victims

Jan. 31, 2008

A fund has been established at Illinois Wesleyan to provide assistance to the 15 members of Phi Mu Alpha whose residence and property were destroyed in a Jan. 27 fire.

Those wishing to make a donation should write a check to IWU, with the notation "Phi Mu Alpha" or PMA on the memo line, at P.O. Box 2900, Bloomington IL 61702-2900.

Those dollars will directly help members of the music fraternity who lost property in the fire. In addition to two students' rooms that were significantly damaged by fire, all the residents experiences losses due to smoke, heat and fire-fighting efforts that included tearing down walls to reach the flames, said Darcy Greder, associate dean of student affairs.

With University assistance, all the residents had secured alternative housing by early evening on the day of the fire. Fire officials have determined the cause was electrical.
