Opera "The Elixir of Love" to be Performed

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University School of Music will present the opera “The Elixir of Love” on Friday, Nov. 14 at 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m.  All performances will take place in the Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall (1210 Park St., Bloomington). 

The opera is free and open to the public.

“The Elixir of Love,” composed by Gaetano Donizetti, follows the story of a poor townsman, Nemorino, who falls desperately in love with the village beauty, Adina.  Nemorino admires her from afar but does not have the courage to make his love known to her until he buys a concoction from Doctor Dulcamara, a traveling salesman specializing in lotions and potions.

Conducted by Philip Rudd and directed by Robert Mangialardi, “The Elixir of Love” features Sarah Kedzie, class of 2010, and Mallory Roberts, class of 2009, as “Adina;” James Lazar Stoia, class of 2010, and Paul Hart Cochran, class of 2010, as “Nemorino;” James Hornor, class of 2009, as “Belcore;” Matt Skibo, class of 2012, as “Doctor Dulcamara;” and Elizabeth Sowatzke, class of 2009, and Allison Crain class of 2011, as “Giannetta.”

Also featured are Amber Johnson, class of 2009; Angela Born, class of 2010; Brittany Schmutzler, class of 2010; Cassandra Coglianese, class of 2012; Christy Verhelst, class of 2009; Erick Henderson, class of 2012; Jonathan Smith, class of 2011; Kate Weiskopf, class of 2009; Martha Cordeniz, class of 2010; Matt Freedman, class of 2012; Matthew Neylon, class of 2011; Michael Hansen, class of 2012; Rachel Carreras, class of 2012; Stefan Riley, class of 2012; Stephanie Marisa Cesaroni, class of 2012, and Suzanne Whitney, class of 2012, as the Chorus.
