Tommy’s New Music Series Presents “Ronnie the Bear”

March 12, 2008

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University Office of Student Activities will present the band “Ronnie the Bear” as a part of its Tommy’s New Music series on Thursday, March 27 at 8 p.m. in Tommy’s located in the Hansen Student Center (300 Beecher St. Bloomington).

“Ronnie the Bear” is an IWU student quartet composed of sophomores Dave Buesing, Riley Benko, and Ryan Quinn and freshman Griffin Benko. They are mainly influenced by the music of Quiet Riot, Coolio, Richard Cheese, Tenacious D, and Flight of the Conchords.

Buesing and Riley Benko formed the group as a duo in early 2007, competing in Undercover 10, an Office of Student Activities competition for student performers, during the Spring 2007 semester. They later added Griffin Benko and Quinn to the group.

Their name, Ronnie the Bear, originates from the name of a character in a You Tube video spoof of the first Harry Potter film that Buesing and Riley Benko found funny when they formed the group.
