Across the Universe Makes Hansen Debut

January 9, 2008

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – As part of the Titan Indie Film Series, the Illinois Wesleyan University Office of Student Activities will show the film Across the Universe on Friday, Jan. 11 at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. in the Hansen Student Center (300 Beecher St., Bloomington).

Directed by Tony Award-winner Julie Taymor and starring Evan Rachel Wood (Lucy) and Jim Sturgess (Jude), Across the Universe is abundantly influenced by The Beatles’ works and is rated PG-13.

Set in the 1960’s Vietnam War era, the film chronicles the stateside romance of Jude, a Liverpool dockworker, and Lucy, an American high school student, as they struggle with the effects of the war and the culture it inspired as well as with their own personal issues. Film critic Roger Ebert heralds Across the Universe as “a bold, beautiful, visually enchanting musical.”
