BLOOMINGTON, Ill. American singer-songwriter Vance Gilbert returns to the Blue Moon Coffeehouse stage on Saturday, Sept. 6 to kick off Blue Moons seventeenth season of performances. Performances by Blue Moon veterans SONiA, Melissa Ferrick, Krista Detor and Ellis Paul, with a special family show by Paul, will round out the 2008 schedule.
Gilbert will perform at 8 p.m. in the Young Main Lounge located in the Memorial Center (104 E. University, Bloomington). Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
Admission is free for IWU students, faculty, and staff with valid ID. Tickets for the public are $10 each and may be purchased at the Garlic Press (106 North St., Normal). Tickets may also be purchased at the venue beginning at 6 p.m., or by calling the Blue Moon hotline at (309) 556-3815. The hotline is staffed Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Ticket inquiries may also be emailed to email@example.com.
With nine albums to his name, Gilbert is currently touring to promote his latest album, Up on Rockfield, a self-described concept album, in which each track is written in the style of such musicians as Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Lynrd Skynrd and others. A Boston Globe reviewer remarks, Gilbert . . . is that rare performer for whom people lean forward in their seats as eagerly between songs as they do during them.
