Student Habitat Chapter Raises $10,000 With "Trick or Treat for Change"

November 1, 2007

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The joint Illinois Wesleyan and Illinois State University chapter of Habitat for Humanity raised more than $10,000 during its fourth annual Trick or Treat for Change event on Oct. 31.

More than 450 IWU and ISU students walked Bloomington-Normal neighborhoods on Halloween and collected $9,286.90. An additional anonymous donation of $1,000 brought the total beyond the group's goal of $10,000 for the event.

This brings the chapter's total fundraising for the year to $18,086.90, more than a third of the $50,000 needed to sponsor the 13th consecutive student-built house.

“Habitat of McLean Co. is honored and blessed to have such an active, dedicated Collegiate Chapter,” said McLean County Volunteer Coordinator Kristen Sand.

The IWU-ISU Habitat Collegiate Chapter has completed one home a year since 1995, and in 2006 received a second-place Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Partnership Award for Campus-Community Collaboration.
