Student Awarded Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan University student Angela Rumsey has been selected
to receive a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. The $4,000 scholarship
will help finance Rumsey’s upcoming fall semester study abroad experience in Uganda,
where she will participate in a development studies program sponsored by the School
for International Training.
Rumsey, a graduate of Glenbard East High School in Lombard, Ill., is an anthropology
and international studies double major.
Associated with the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs,
and the Institute of International Education, Gilman Scholarships are awarded to students
already receiving financial assistance based on their submitted applications. Out
of 1,422 applicants for the fall 2007 semester, 420 students were awarded scholarships
for study abroad opportunities in 59 different countries, including Mali, Jordan,
Bolivia, and South Korea.
