First-Year Students Volunteer Throughout Community
Aug. 28, 2007
Before attending their first classes at Illinois Wesleyan, 128 first-year students
volunteered at five community sites on Saturday, Aug. 25.
The students worked 3-hour shifts in morning and afternoon assignments, boarding buses
to reach sites for the Ecology Action Center, Girl Scouts of Centrillio Council, Habitat
for Humanity, Prairie Aviation and the Challenger Learning Center. Among the feedback
received from the agencies, the Girl Scouts reported that IWU volunteers contributed
about 400 man hours, saving about $4,000 in payroll that can directly benefit the
girls served by the camp.
