Students to Raise Funds for Cancer Awareness

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.-The IWU chapter of Colleges Against Cancer will host a benefit fundraiser
Stand-Up Against Cancer at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 3 in the Hansen Student Center
(300 Beecher St., Bloomington).
Open to the public, the event requires a minimum donation of $3. All proceeds from
admissions will support the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life fundraiser.
The event will feature four stand-up comedians including the IWU chapter of Colleges
for Cancer's President Kevin Lewis, who founded the organization chapter on campus
last year. Lewis is a sophomore business administration major.
Marita Calderon, a sophomore nursing major; Ryan Quinn, a first-year psychology major;
and Aaron Gierhart, a sophomore education major, will also perform comedy acts.
In addition to stand-up comedy, two members of the organization, Alicia Vallarta,
survivorship and education chair, and Melinda Clopton, secretary, will speak about
cancer awareness and the function of the student organization.
Colleges Against Cancer is a subset program of the American Cancer Society that allows
student, faculty and staff from over 175 colleges and universities to promote cancer
awareness, prevention and safety. The program uses grassroots advocacy, Relay For
Life, prevention and early detection education and activities that honor cancer survivors
to try to make a difference.
