Illinois Wesleyan Elects New Trustees

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.— The Illinois Wesleyan University Board of Trustees elected four alumni as new trustees at the May 12 board meeting.

David Petrick, a 1967 Illinois Wesleyan graduate with a bachelor’s degree in political science, is the owner of Bretford Manufacturing, an office furniture company headquartered in Franklin Park, Ill.

Myrtis Sullivan was recently named Associate Director of Family Health Services for the State of Illinois. She graduated from Illinois Wesleyan in 1974 with a bachelor’s degree in biology, and earned medical degrees from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she was a practicing physician.

A native of Bloomington, W. Thomas Lawrence is a tax managing partner for Ernest & Young in Chicago. He joined the firm in 1980, the same year he graduated from Illinois Wesleyan with a degree in accounting and received his Certified Public Accounting designation.

Thomas J. Neis, a 1970 graduate of Illinois Wesleyan with a bachelor’s degree in insurance, is owner of Neis Insurance Company, Inc., in Crystal Lake, Ill. 

The officers of the Board for 2007-2008 are: president, George A. Vinyard of Chicago; first vice-president, Gilbert L. Dorsey of Bloomington; second vice-president, Herbert A. Getz, of Naperville, Ill.; secretary, Susan D. Waring of Bloomington and treasurer, Robert E. Field of Chicago.

The Board granted emeritus status to two board members, Craig C. Hart, and Garry D. Kinder.  Hart served Illinois Wesleyan as a trustee for 25 years, including 11 as Board President and chair of the Executive Committee. He is the retired president of Champion Federal Savings and Loan and lives in Hudson, Ill. Kinder, a 1955 graduate of Illinois Wesleyan, joined the Board in 1990 and is the chairman of the board for Kinder Brothers International in Dallas, Texas.

Todd M. French '93 assumed an ex-officio position on the Board as the new president of the IWU Alumni Association succeeding Jean S. Baird '80, who returned to her previous position on the Board of Trustees to complete her term.

Trustees who were re-elected to the Board at this meeting are Cathy T. Carswell of Scarsdale, N.Y., Gilbert L. Dorsey of Bloomington, Thomas O. Hansen of Orlando, Fla., John S. Horton of Phoenix, Ariz.; Rebie R. Kingston of West Bloomfield, Mich., Kathy Larey Lewton of Stamford, Conn.; J. William Roberts of Springfield, Ill.; and Edward B. Rust of Bloomington.
