Illinois Wesleyan University Announces Faculty Tenure, Advancement

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Four Illinois Wesleyan University faculty members have been awarded tenure and promotions in rank while six more earned promotions in rank in action taken by the IWU Board of Trustees this week.

The faculty receiving tenure and promotion to associate professor from assistant professor are Lynda Duke, The Ames Library; Sonja Fritzsche, modern and classical languages and literatures; Sarah George, The Ames Library; and Diego Mendez-Carbajo, economics.

Duke has a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and master's degrees from the University of Michigan and the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She joined the IWU faculty as an assistant professor in 2001.

Fritzsche, a faculty member since 2001, has a bachelor's degree from Indiana University, a master's degree from the University of California-Los Angeles, and earned her doctorate from the University of Minnesota.

George joined the IWU faculty in 1999 as an assistant professor. She has a bachelor's degree from the College of Wooster and a master's degree from Indiana University.

Mendez-Carbajo, a faculty member since 2000, earned master's and doctoral degrees from Florida International University and received his bachelor's degree from Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, Spain. He became assistant professor in 2001.

All tenure appointments and advancements will become effective at the start of the 2007-08 academic year.

Seven Others Earn Promotions in Rank

Promoted to professor from associate professor are James Dougan, psychology; Ram Mohan, chemistry; Mauricio Parra, Hispanic studies; Charles Springwood, sociology and anthropology; Dan Terkla, English, and William Walsh, business administration.

Promoted to associate professor from assistant professor was William Kauth, physical education.

Dougan, a faculty member since 1990 and associate professor since 1996, earned his bachelor's degree from Whitman College and his master's and doctorate from Washington State University.

Mohan joined the IWU faculty in 1996 and was promoted to associate professor in 2002. He has a bachelor's degree from Hansraj College in Delhi, India. His master's degree is from the University of Delhi and his doctorate from University of Maryland-Baltimore.

Parra became an Illinois Wesleyan faculty member in 1990 and an associate professor in 1999. He received bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of California-Santa Barbara and earned a doctorate at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Springwood, a faculty member since 1996, has a bachelor's degree from Purdue University and his master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He was promoted to associate professor in 2002.

Terkla received bachelor's and master's degrees from California State University-Long Beach and earned his doctorate at the University of Southern California. He joined the IWU faculty in 1995 and was promoted to associate professor in 1999.

Walsh has been an associate professor since 1994 and joined the faculty in 1990. He earned his master's and doctorate degrees from Indiana University and received his bachelor's degree from the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Kauth has been head athletic trainer at Illinois Wesleyan since 1994 and an assistant professor since 2002. He received bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from Illinois State University.
