IWU to Hold Student Composition Recital

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.— Illinois Wesleyan will hold a student composition recital on Dec. 6 at 8 p.m. in the Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall (1210 N. Park St., Bloomington). Held in conjunction with the School of Music’s “New Music Series,” the recital will showcase 20th century and contemporary pieces.

The event is free and open to the public. 

Featured students will include first-year composition major Queenie Li, junior composition major Scott Schumann, sophomore composition major Eric Vetter, and junior music major Evan Tammen.

Li’s composition Breeze will feature first-year music education major Jessica Goldberg on the clarinet and Li on piano. Schumann will perform his Compositional Improvisation #1 on piano, and considers this piece an exercise in skill. Schumann said, “I thought I would test my abilities as a composer by forcing myself to not write this piece until 24 hours before the performance.”

Vetter’s Rolling Chair will feature Vetter on guitar. Tammen’s Karl Rove and Nero Giggling and Talking about Boys at an Infernal, Eternal Slumber Party will be performed by senior music major Kathryn Jones on the contrabass and Tammen on the oboe.
