Jazz Lab Band to Perform Spring Concert

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan University’s Jazz Lab Band will perform their
annual spring concert on Saturday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m. The performance, which
will be held in Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall (1210 Park St., Bloomington),
is free and open to the public.
The concert program will include “Jumpin’ at the Woodside” and “M-Squad” by Count
Basie, “C-Jam Blues (Ala Mambo!)” by Duke Ellington, “The Way You Look Tonight” by
Fields and Kern, and “Embraceable You” by George and Ira Gershwin, among others.
Featured senior musicians will be: Shannon Baumer, alto saxophone; Mandy Compton,
vocals; Tom Fairbairn, guitar and Kate Tombaugh, piano. Also being highlighted during
the performance are: sophomore Daniel Chang, tenor saxophone; first-year student Cathy
Frisbie, trumpet; junior Aaron Karch, trombone; first-year student Steve Kutschke,
drums; junior Rich Patenaude, trumpet; first-year student Carter Schultz, bass; first-year
student Mark Steiner, alto saxophone and sophomore Gary Weisenberger, trumpet.
IWU's Jazz Lab Band, which is open to student musicians of all majors, practices weekly
and performs once each semester. Lab Band members are encouraged to broaden their
musical horizons by learning a secondary instrument or conducting to gain experience
in leading an ensemble.
