BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Ball State University Woodwind Trio will perform at a guest concert at Illinois Wesleyan University on Thursday, September 20 at 8 p.m. in the Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall (1210 N. Park St., Bloomington). The event is free and open to the public.
The Woodwind Trio is comprised of Timothy Clinch on the oboe, Elizabeth Crawford on the clarinet, and Keith Sweger on the bassoon. Clinch is assistant professor of oboe performance at Ball State, the principal oboe of the Muncie Symphony Orchestra, and a member of the Musical Arts Quintet. He also performs with the Opera Delaware Orchestra as principal oboe and with the Harrisburg Symphony playing English horn. He has also performed for the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the South Dakota Symphony, the Toledo Symphony and the Delaware Symphony.
Crawford is assistant professor of clarinet at Ball State. She is a member of the Musical Arts Quintet and principal clarinet of the Muncie Symphony Orchestra. She has performed with the Royal Philharmonic, the Philharmonia, the BBC Philharmonic, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. She has played in the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, and the Orchestra Hall, as well as many other prestigious concert halls.
Sweger, a professor of bassoon at Ball State, is principal bassoon in the Muncie Symphony Orchestra and contrabassoon with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. He has performed with the American Wind Symphony, South Bend Symphony, and the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, along with several other companies. He is a co-founder of the Algoma Wind Quintet, the resident faculty quintet at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
The program will include Henri Tomasi’s Concert Champetre for Oboe, Clarinet and Bassoon, Suite No. 3, Op. 27 by Joseph Bodin de Boismortier, Suite pour Trio d’Anches by Alexandre Tansman, Francis Poulenc’s Sonata for Clarinet and Bassoon, and Divertissement for Oboe, Clarinet, and Bassoon by Jean Francaix.
Professors Clinch, Crawford and Sweger will lead a master class for IWU School of Music Students, Sept. 20 at 4 p.m. in Westbrook Auditorium.
