April 4, 2007

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University Office of Student Activities will present the band Active Ingredient on Thursday, April 12 at 8 p.m. in Tommy’s of the Hansen Student Center (300 Beecher St., Bloomington) as part of Tommy’s New Music Series.

The event is free and open to the public.

Active Ingredient is a student-led jazz combination group, consisting of members Brian Baxter (senior, drums), Brent Bogen (junior, alto sax), Kyle Charles (junior, tenor sax), Jim Klopfleisch (senior, bass), Kathryn Lachey (senior, vocals), Ted Nichols (junior, trumpet) and Stuart Seale (junior, piano).

The name “Active Ingredient” has been around IWU for decades, reserved each year for the top jazz combo at the University. The current members have played together as a group for a year, but have joined forces in many other collaborations in the past, including the IWU Jazz Ensemble. The band draws influences from both older and more modern artists, and performs jazz, blues and funk. The group gigs regularly in the Bloomington-Normal area.
