Students to Celebrate 2007 Homecoming with Green Hotdogs, Titan Spirit

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan University’s Homecoming 2007 student celebration,
themed “Old Hollywood Glamour: We’re Rolling Out the Green Carpet,” will include an
array of activities to take place between Wednesday, Oct. 17 and Sunday, Oct. 21.
All of the events are free of charge and all IWU students are encouraged to attend
As in previous years, students will be divided into teams by residence halls and Greek
organizations during Homecoming week. Teams will compete for the most points, which
they can earn by participating in the various events offered each day.
The Office of Residential Life and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life will
provide information regarding how to participate in the Homecoming team activities.
This year’s teams are:
• Team 1: Sigma Pi, Kappa Delta, Dodds, Gulick, and Harriet
• Team 2: Sigma Kappa, Theta Chi, Phi Mu Alpha, Munsell, and Off-Campus
• Team 3: Sigma Chi, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Adams, Ferguson, and Acacia
• Team 4: Alpha Gamma Delta, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Dolan, Kemp, and Martin
• Team 5: Sigma Tau Iota, Phi Gamma Delta, Pfeiffer, Magill, Sigma Alpha Iota, and
Homecoming festivities will commence with a Decoration Celebration on Wednesday, Oct. 17. IWU students,
faculty and staff are welcome to decorate their respective residence halls and offices
according to the Homecoming theme, in show of Titan spirit. A panel will judge the
decorations and declare a winner at the Ice Cream Social, also on Wednesday, at 7
p.m. in the Hansen Student Center (300 East Beecher St., Bloomington).
A Lip Sync competition will follow at 7:30 p.m., also in Hansen. For this event, each
team will send representatives to lip sync a song chosen for its relation to the Homecoming
theme. The winning group will earn points for their team.
On Thursday, Oct. 18, the student Talent Show will take place at 7 p.m. in Hansen,
immediately followed by the Homecoming Coronation at approximately 8:30 p.m., also
IWU’s official Spirit Day is Friday, Oct. 19. Spirit Day activities will include
the Student/Alumni Tailgate Party from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the Shirk Center parking
lot (302 E. Emerson St., Bloomington). Food and activities will be provided by various
campus organizations. WESN, the on-campus radio station, will provide musical entertainment,
and the Office of Residential Life will provide dyed green hotdogs.
Also on Friday, the Titan Games, an annual student event competition, will take place
from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Wilder Field (300 E. Kelsey St., Bloomington). The games will
include a water balloon toss, slip-n-slide bowling, a rope pull, and a relay race.
Students are welcome to participate as representatives of their Homecoming teams or
to cheer on their fellow Titans as they compete.
A date auction featuring male and female student representatives from each team will
be held at 9 p.m. on Friday in Hansen. Participants may bid on a student and date
package (such as dinner and a movie). The date packages will be donated by the community.
Proceeds from the date auction will benefit the McLean County Urban League which specializes
in youth mentoring and education programs. Information about volunteer opportunities
with the McLean County Urban League will be available at the date auction.
On Saturday, Oct. 20, the Titans will face Elmhurst at 1:30 p.m. at Wilder Field in
the Homecoming football game. The Homecoming Dance will take place in the Memorial
Center Main Lounge (104 E. University St., Bloomington) from 9-11 p.m.
