Iraq War Veteran John Crawford to Speak on Campus
May 15, 2007
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan University will present guest speaker John Crawford,
author of The Last True Story I’ll Ever Tell: An Accidental Soldier’s Account of the War in
Iraq, on Wednesday, May 16 at 7 p.m. at the Hansen Student Center (300 Beecher St., Bloomington).
Crawford will speak to the campus community about his experiences as a member of the
Third Battalion of the 124th Infantry. Recently married and only two credits shy
of a BA in anthropology from Florida State University, Crawford’s National Guard unit
was activated just prior to the invasion of Iraq in 2002. For 18 months, Crawford
was stationed in occupied Baghdad, where he wrote the essays that would later become
his memoir. The Last True Story I’ll Ever Tell was published in the summer of 2005 and has earned a spot on the New York Times bestsellers list.
