The Departed to Play at Hansen Student Center

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan's Office of Student Activities will present
the award-winning film The Departed on Friday, Feb. 2 at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. in the Hansen Student Center (300 Beecher
The event is free and open to the public.
Directed by Martin Scorsese, the crime thriller won Best Film at the Critics' Choice
Awards, Best Director at the 2007 Golden Globes, and has been nominated by the
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for Best Picture, Best Director, Best
Adaptation of a Screenplay, Best Editing, and Best Supporting Actor, Mark Walberg
for his role as Detective Dignam.
Rated R, the film is set in South Boston, where the state police force is waging
war on organized crime. On each side, an informer has infiltrated the ranks, considerably
upping the stakes for all involved. Rookie undercover cop Billy Costigan (Leonardo
DiCaprio) must make sacrifices in order to gain the trust of mob boss Frank Costello
(Jack Nicholson), unaware that Costello's protege Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon)
is working his way up to a position of power in Boston's Special Investigation
Unit. Each man's double-life threatens to consume him as the threat of exposure
becomes all too real.
The film co-stars Martin Sheen, Vera Farmiga, and Alec Baldwin.
