Chapel Hour Moved to Tuesday Night for Passover Seder
March 29, 2007
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Co-sponsored by Illinois Wesleyan’s University Chapel Hour and Special Events and Services and the campus chapter of Hillel, a national organization for Jewish students, this
week’s Chapel Hour will be held following at short program of the traditional Passover
Seder on Tuesday, April 3 at 5:30 p.m. in the Main Lounge of Memorial Center (104
University St., Bloomington).
The event is free and open to the public and no advance reservations are required.
Observed on the first or second evening of Passover, beginning this year on Monday,
April 2, the Seder is a ceremonial ritual and meal done in remembrance of the Hebrew
exodus from enslavement in Ancient Egypt. During the Seder, there will be prayer
readings to go along with the special order in which the foods are eaten. After the
meal, there will be a screening of the film When Do We Eat? My Big Fat Jewish Seder, a humorous and thought provoking look at many of Judaism’s most pervasive questions.
A discussion session will follow.
Hillel has conducted a public Seder at IWU since the chapter’s founding in 2002.
The chapter, which meets once a month, welcomes students from every faith background
to participate in all their religious, cultural, and secular events.
