Priest Joseph A. Brown to Address Chapel Hour

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The next Illinois Wesleyan University Chapel Hour service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 11:00 a.m. in the Evelyn Chapel (1301 N. Park St., Bloomington).
The service is free and open to the public.
Priest Joseph A. Brown, professor and director of the Black American Studies Program at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, will be the featured speaker at the service as part of a two-day visit to the IWU campus.
Speaking on topics including African and African-American spirituality and African-American history and culture, Brown leads a vigorous academic and liturgical career. Before joining SIU, Brown taught at Xavier University and the University of Virginia, and earned both his master’s degree and Ph.D. from Yale University. He has published numerous articles on black theology and literature, and has authored several books, including A Retreat with Thea Bowman and Bede Abram: Leaning on the Lord, To Stand on the Rock: Meditations on Black Catholic Identity, and Sweet Sweet Spirit.
