Chapel Service to Focus on Community

August 31, 2007

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan’s University Chapel Hour will present its next service on Wednesday Sept. 5 at 11:00 a.m. in the Evelyn Chapel (1301 N. Park St., Bloomington).

The service is free and open to the public.

University Chaplain Hope Luckie’s sermon, “We Get by with a Little Help from Our Friends,” relates to the similarly titled Beatles’ song. “I was thinking about what the students would be interested in,” said Luckie, referring to the topic. The service will mark Luckie’s third as University Chaplain as she examines the role of friendships. “I see community as unity and not uniformity,” said Luckie, whose first month of services will focus on the “theme of who we are as one community.”

The service will also feature a jazz trio that performed at last week’s chapel hour.

Prior to coming to Illinois Wesleyan, Luckie worked as an adjunct instructor at Andover-Newton Theological School in Newton Centre, Mass. She also served as the minister of the Lexington United Methodist Church in Lexington, Mass.
