Chapel Service to Welcome the Class of 2011
August 15, 2007
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Sponsored by Illinois Wesleyan University’s Chaplain’s Office and the Evelyn Chapel Advisory Board, there will be a welcome service for new and transfer students on Sunday Aug. 26 at 10 a.m. in Evelyn Chapel (1301 N. Park St., Bloomington).
The event is free and open to the public.
The service will mark the first for University Chaplain Hope Luckie, whose appointment was announced early last May. She will deliver a sermon titled “The Wii Generation,” in which she will discuss the breakdown of cultural barriers in society. “Like the University community and the community of faith, the Nintendo Wii is designed to attract people, regardless of their age or experience, to sit down, learn and play together, whether they’re in the same room or on different sides of the globe,” said Luckie. “The system’s name reflects this simple idea and is easily pronounced in a variety of languages, suggesting two players side by side in community.”
Prior to her appointment as IWU Chaplain, Luckie served as minister of the Lexington United Methodist Church in Lexington, Mass., and as an adjunct instructor at Andover-Newton Theological School in Newton Centre, Mass.
