Merwin and Wakeley Galleries to Display Student Work

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan University's Merwin & Wakeley Galleries will
open their 20th annual Juried Student Art Exhibition on Monday, Feb. 12.
Due to inclement weather, the reception and awards ceremony have been rescheduled
for Tuesday, Feb. 20 in the galleries (6 Ames Plaza West, Bloomington). The reception
will begin at 4 p.m., with the awards ceremony at 4:30 p.m. All events are free and
open to the public. The awards ceremony also will be broadcast live online. View the Webcast.
The exhibition, which will continue until March 1, will showcase the work of Illinois
Wesleyan art majors and minors. All areas of IWU's studio art program will be represented,
including painting, drawing, printmaking, graphic design, photography, ceramics, sculpture
and kiln-fused glass.
The annual awards to be presented on February 12 include the Illinois Wesleyan Hart
Career Center Purchase Award, which selects a piece to join the permanent collection
of student artwork in the Career Center; the President's Award, chosen by IWU president
Richard F. Wilson and the Director's Award, chosen by Miles Bair, director of the
School of Art. New this year is the Hansen Center Purchase Award, a piece of artwork
for a permanent collection in the university's Hansen Student Center, that will be
selected by Kevin Clark, assistant dean of students, and students on the Student Advisory
Gallery Hours are as follows: Monday - Friday: 12-4 p.m., Tuesday: 7-9 p.m. and Saturday
and Sunday: 1-4 p.m.
