BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan's School of Theatre Arts will present a chamber
musical about the power of theatre, A Man of No Importance, on Feb. 7-11 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. in the E. Melba Johnson Kirkpatrick Laboratory
Theatre (304 E. Graham St., Bloomington).
Based on a 1994 independent film starring Albert Finney, A Man of No Importance is about the journey of self-discovery and acceptance of Alfie Byrne, a 1960s Dublin
bus conductor who loves to recite poetry to the patrons on his bus. Alfie also is
the director at the local community theatre, run out of the basement of a small parish,
in which his bus patrons become his performers. In a world where the budding sexual
freedom happening in other places is barely whispered about, A Man of No Importance illuminated the universal theme to be loved and to love in return.
Directed by IWU Associate Professor of Theatre Arts Tom Ossowski, A Man of No Importance features book by Terrence McNally, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty.
Tickets for the show are $3 for general admittance, $2 for seniors (65+) and $1 with
a valid student I.D. For additional information or to order tickets, beginning Jan.
30, call the McPherson Theatre Box Office at (309) 556-3232.
