IWU Student Hosts Supply Drive for Nicaragua
October 3, 2006
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Pamela Solowski, a senior biology and Hispanic studies major from
Lemont, Ill., will host a drive at Illinois Wesleyan University Oct. 24 through Nov.
7 to gather supplies for a trip to Nicaragua.
Boxes for the collection of plain-colored t-shirts of all colors and sizes, Band-Aids
and toothpaste will be set up in residence halls and in public areas on campus. The
supplies will be distributed during a week-long trip to Nicaragua, where Solowski
and a team of volunteers will set up temporary clinics and assist with feeding programs.
The team expects to see around 1,000 patients on their trip.
Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America, yet among the poorest of all
of Latin America. Nearly half of the population lives in rural areas, and have little
access to healthcare.
The Wesley Methodist Church is sponsoring Solowski as a Spanish-speaking student interested
in health care.
