IWU to Host CSO Violinist Tom Hall

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - As part of its Summer Music Program, Illinois Wesleyan University will host renowned Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) violinist Tom Hall who will conduct a concert during the 2006 summer Chamber Music Festival and Camp, which will run June 18 - July  2 in Presser Hall (1210 Park St., Bloomington).

Having just completed a season with the Cincinnati Symphony, Hall joined the CSO in 1970, in which he has served as an officer of the CSO Member's Committee and Audition Committee.  In addition to his commitment to the CSO, he has also appeared as a soloist with the Chicago Arts Quartet, performed in the orchestras of Music of the Baroque and Ars Viva, played for television and radio commercials and since 2002 has served as conductor of the DePaul Chamber Orchestra at DePaul University.

From 1982 to 1986, Hall was the editor of Senza Sordino, the official publication of the International Conference of Symphony and Opera Musicians.  His articles have also been published in Symphony Magazine, Journal of the Conductors Guild and Medical Problems of Performing Artists.  Hall also has been published in Chicago magazine in 1971 and 1980 for his word games on names of composers and performers.

Having received all of his formal music education in his hometown of Tallahassee, he spent six years at Florida State University (FSU) where he earned a bachelor's and master's degree with honors.  In 1974 FSU honored him as a distinguished graduate.

During his stay at IWU, Hall will be available for media interviews.

Information for both IWU summer music camps is as follows:

The Chamber Music Camp and Festival for strings, wind, harp and piano will run June 18 - July 2 and is open to high school and junior high school students who wish to participate in intensive music training.

The cost of tuition is $480 and room and board for overnight students is an additional $460.  Local students have the option of buying a lunch-only meal plan for $115.  Need-based scholarships are available.

The deadline for application is April 25, 2006.

The seventh annual Cello Camp will run July 9-23 and is open to high school and junior high age cellists.

The cost of tuition for the camp, which includes lessons, classes and electives, is $480.  Room and board, which includes lunch and dinner, is available for an additional $460.  Local students have the option of purchasing a meal plan, which includes lunches for $105.

The deadline for application is May 1, 2006.
