IWU School of Music to Host Brass Chamber Music Recital
March 1, 2006
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan School of Music will host a brass chamber
music recital on Sunday March 5, at 3 p.m. in the Westbrook Auditorium of Presser
Hall (1210 Park Street, Bloomington).
The event will be free and open to the public.
Adjunct Instructor in Music Richard Leister said that chamber music is best described
as music written for small groups of musicians. Each instrumentalist plays her or
her individual part and performs by listening and interacting musically with the other
members of the group. Leister feels that chamber music is one of the best tools to
help young players grow musically. He is grateful for his exposure to chamber music
when he began playing the trumpet and now works as a music coach to help give students
the same experience.
The first group to perform will be The No Name Yet Quintet. Members are David Banas,
a sophomore music education major, and Dan George, a freshman music major, on trumpet;
Bridget Wall, a sophomore biology major, on French horn; Philip Arquette, a senior
science/music double major, on trombone; and Lindsay Gross, a sophomore environmental
studies major, on Bass trombone.
The Divertimentos Trio will perform second on the program. Members are Scott Schumann,
a freshman music education major, on trumpet; Paul Meiste, a junior music education
major, on French horn; and Aaron Hayes, a sophomore composition major, on trombone.
A Whole Lotta Brass will be the third performance. Members are Amy LeClercq, a junior
music education major, and Casey Brant, a junior science/music double major major,
on trumpet; Daniel Monge, a senior orchestral instruments major, on French horn; Jacqueline
Sylvester, a sophomore sociology/political science double major, on trombone; and
Josh Biere, a junior music education major, on tuba.
The performance groups will play separately, then conclude the concert with one piece
as a combined group.
