IWU Titan Film Series to Present Rent

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -Illinois Wesleyan University will present the film Rent as a part of its Titan Film Series in the Hansen Student Center (300 Beecher St., Bloomington) on Friday, Feb. 3, at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Sponsored by the IWU Office of Student Activities, the event is free and open to the public.

Directed by Chris Columbus, who also directed Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire and two of the Harry Potter films, Rent stars Anthony Rapp, Taye Diggs, Rosario Dawson, Jesse L. Martin, Adam Pascal and Idina Menzel.

Rent depicts a year in the lives of a group of modern-day bohemians living in New York's East Village.  As the friends strive to remain true to their artistic ideals, they struggle to achieve success and acceptance in the face of poverty, illness and the AIDS epidemic.

The film is based on Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer and Tony Award winning musical of the same name, which is also a modernization of Puccini's opera La Boheme.  Rapp, Diggs, Martin, Pascal and Menzel all starred in the original stage version of the show.
