Toys for Tots Holiday Gift Drive on IWU Campus

November 8, 2006

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – By Friday, Nov. 10, a Christmas tree will bring holiday cheer to room 101 of the Buck Memorial Library (1111 N. East St.).  However, it will be up to IWU’s students, faculty and staff to play Santa.

The tree is a charity effort coordinated by the Titan Talkers, students who work in IWU’s Alumni Development Call Center.  It will be a drop-off point for members of the IWU community to donate toys to the U.S. Marine Corps’ annual Toys for Tots drive.  Donations should be new, unwrapped and appropriate for children up to 15 years old.

Although the tree may not appear until the end of this week, donations are welcome from now until the end of the semester.  The organizers have set a goal of collecting at least 500 toys and would like to surpass that goal and reach 1000 by Monday, Dec. 18.  Monetary donations to the cause are also welcome.  Checks should be made out to Toys for Tots, or to Assistant Director of Annual Giving Sherry McClarty, coordinator of the Titan Talkers.  McClarty and the students will use donated funds to purchase toys for the cause.

McClarty and the Titan Talkers will also be available to pick up donations of toys or money directly from the offices of staff or faculty members and will collect toys in the Shirk Center at the home basketball game on Saturday, Dec. 9.
