February 21, 2006
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan will host Lucy L. Marion, a national leader on the Doctorate of Nursing Practice Initiative (DNP) during a panel discussion titled "Regional Colleges from Practice and Education," on Wednesday, Feb. 22 from 1-5:30 p.m. in the Main Lounge of Memorial Center (104 University St., Bloomington).
The event, which is expected to draw over 100 people from across the state, is sponsored by nursing honor societies Theta Pi and Xi Pi chapters of Sigma Theta Tau International, as well as regional colleges and health-care systems.
The panel will speak about the decrease in graduate nursing students and the effect it will have on the future of health care. It will focus on the Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL), which is a Master's prepared generalist, created through educational and institutional partnerships, as well as the DNP, which is a post-Master's advanced practice nurse preparation.
Marion is a national leader on the DNP Initiative. She is the principal investigator on the DNP program grant ($1 million), author of several articles and a frequent speaker. Marion initiated the CNL at the Medical College of Georgia, where she is dean and professor.
