All-Vocal Group to Perform Concert at IWU
August 29, 2006
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan University's Office of Student Activities will
present a concert by the vocal band Nat
urally 7 on Friday, Sept. 1, in the Hansen Student Center, 300 Beecher St., in Bloomington.
The event is free and open to the public.
Trained singers from New York, the seven members of the band began their careers as
vocalists with a capella groups. In 1998, inspired by one member's spontaneous imitation
of a harmonica, the group began using their voices to simulate the sound of instruments
such as guitars, drums and bass. Because their music replicates the sound of instruments
rather than just voices, Naturally 7 consider themselves a "nonstrumental" vocal band,
rather than an a cappella group.
Although Naturally 7 released their first album, Non-Fiction, in the United States,
in 2002 the group signed with the German label Festplatte. "Music is the Key," a
single taken from their second album, What is it?, reached the number one spot on
the German singles charts, selling over 220,000 copies in 2003. Naturally 7 continues
to tour widely outside the United States and expects to release a third studio album,
Ready II Fly, this year.
