John McLaughlin
Hansen Student Center Presents Singer Jon McLaughlin

Sept. 1, 2006

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Piano-rocker Jon McLaughlin will perform Friday, Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. at the Illinois Wesleyan University Hansen Student Center, 300 Beecher St., in Bloomington. The event is free and open to the public.

McLaughlin's music, influenced by Ben Folds and Billy Joel, is said to stay with an audience long after he walks off the stage. In his live shows, he is known to engage his audience with a personable combination of song and conversation.

Classically trained as a pianist from a young age, the McLaughlin was accepted into the School of Music at Anderson University in his Indiana hometown. There, McLaughlin laid the foundations for his self-titled debut album, which "covers a mass of musical ground" from the jazzy track "Blue Skies" to the ragtime sound of "Throwing a Line."

In promotion of his new album Songs I Wrote and Later Recorded on the label Island Records, McLaughlin will tour the U.S. this fall.
