University to Welcome Families with Music, Arts, Athletics

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan's Family Weekend is set for Nov. 3-5. The weekend
includes a variety of activities ranging from athletics to music and the arts.
All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.
Family registration for weekend events will take place on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 8:30
to 10:00 a.m. in the Hansen Student Center, 300 E. Beecher St., in Bloomington. After
this time, all tickets will be held at the Hansen Student Center Information Desk.
On Friday, Nov. 3, pop-rock band The Hush Sound, whose most recent album, Like Vines, was released earlier this year, will perform in the Hansen Student Center at 7:00
p.m. The band recently opened for Fall Out Boy, The All-American Rejects and The
Academy Is... and toured with Panic! At the Disco on a full U.S. summer tour.
Also on Friday, at 7:30 p.m. the IWU Jazz Ensemble will give a concert in Westbrook
Auditorium of Presser Hall, 1210 Park St., in Bloomington.
Saturday's events will begin with the session, "While Your Student is Still Sleeping,"
which will be held from 10:15 to 11:00 a.m. in room 101 of The Center for Natural
Science Learning and Research, 201 Beecher St., in Bloomington. James Sikora, professor
of sociology and the 2007 winner of The Pantagraph Award for Teaching Excellence, will give a talk entitled, "Connecting with the World
Outside of IWU: A Community of Shepherds."
A luncheon catered by Sodexho Food Service will be held at the Shirk Center, 302 E.
Emerson St., in Bloomington at 11:30 a.m. Vice President for Advancement Martin Smith
will give brief remarks. Tickets are required for this event.
The Titan football team will play against North Central College on Wilder Field, 300
E. Kelsey St., in Bloomington at 1:00 p.m. Senior football players, cheerleaders,
band and dance team members will be recognized during pre-game activities.
There will be the President's Reception from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. directly inside the
Center for Natural Science Learning and Research. This reception, hosted by the Parent
Board, is an opportunity to meet IWU President Richard Wilson and to speak with university
faculty members. An R.S.V.P. is required for this event.
On Saturday night at 7:00 p.m., the Hansen Student Center will host a Family Talent
Show. All are welcome to watch this event, although participants must be pre-registered.
Saturday's activities will end at the Shirk Center, which will host various attractions
from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. such as beanbag and inflatable games and free pizza.
On Sunday, there will be a special Family Weekend Service at 10:00 a.m. in the Evelyn
Chapel, 1301 N. Park St. This non-denominational service will feature IWU students
and University Chaplain Dennis Groh, who will explore the topic, "How My Views of
Family Have Changed."
The bookstore, located in the Hansen Student Center, will offer a special 10 percent
discount on all clothing and gift items during the weekend. Bookstore hours for Family
Weekend will be 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on
