IWU Chapel Hour to Celebrate Jewish Sukkot

September 25, 2006

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -  Illinois Wesleyan's University Chapel Hour and Special Events and Services will present "The Jewish High Holy Days: Celebrating Sukkot" on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m. in Evelyn Chapel, 1301 N. Park St., in Bloomington.  Sukkot commemorates the life of the Israelites in the desert during their journey to the promised land.  During their wanderings, they lived in booths (sukkot).

Co-sponsored by IWU's Hillel religious organization, the event is free and open to the public.

Paul M. Kaplan, Rabbi of Bloomington's Moses Montefiore Temple, will be the guest speaker at the event.  Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Kaplan was educated in public schools and graduated from Oberlin College.  He received his M.H.L from Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati and was ordained as a rabbi in 1974.  Kaplan has served congregations in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.
