IWU to Host Joint Advent Communion Service

December 7, 2006

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -  In partnership with Illinois State University, Illinois Wesleyan University Chapel Hour and Special Events and Services will host the annual evening Advent Communion Service on Friday, Dec. 8, at 11 p.m. in Evelyn Chapel, 1301 N. Park St., in Bloomington.

The event is free and open to the public.

Holy Communion, also called the Eucharist, is a Christian rite wherein communicants receive bread and wine, symbolizing nourishment from the Holy Spirit.  Advent Communion, held in the days leading up to Christmas on Dec. 25, is a special event held in celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

During the service, University Chaplain Dennis Groh will deliver a speech entitled "Advent and Arrivals."
