Tapia-Ruano Named First Hispanic President of American Immigration Lawyers Association
Carlina Tapia-Ruano delivered Illinois Wesleyan's commencement address in 2004.
Carlina Tapia-Ruano, class of 1977, has been named President of the American Immigration
Lawyers Association (AILA).
Tapia-Ruano is the first Hispanic to be elected to this position in the 60 year history
of AILA. An expert in various areas of immigration law including business, consular
practice, deportation, employer sanctions, family, and naturalization Tapia-Ruano
has served as a leading AILA spokesperson on these issues.

honorary Doctor of Laws degree when she delivered the University's commencement address
